Introduction

Welcome to the Daresbury Laboratory Science in Society web pages. Here you will find information about the variety of events, workshops, lectures and visits we are involved in.

Daresbury Laboratory lies South West of Warrington in Cheshire. The Laboratory was founded in 1962 and is now part of the Science and Technology Facilities Council.
Formed by Royal Charter in 2007, the Science and Technology Facilities Council is one of Europe's largest multidisciplinary research organisations supporting scientists and engineers world-wide.

The Council operates world-class, large scale research facilities and provides strategic advice to the UK government on their development. It also manages international research projects in support of a broad cross-section of the UK research community. The Council also directs, coordinates and funds research, education and training in nuclear and particle physics, space science and astronomy.

The unique facilities at the Science and Technology Facilities Council's laboratories provide a major resource for science and society activities. More than 5000 members of the public and school students visit the Council each year. All are enthused by what they see and do.
